The Quarantine and the Chaos Continues!

I hate to start this Spiel out on the negative, but I must…unfortunately we won’t be having pizza Friday this week. Jay booked a last minute private chef job in Manhattan which takes him away from home for 9 days. It was one of those “can’t turn it down” opportunities; but even still it was something Jay had to think carefully about. Who exactly are these people? How demanding/difficult will they be? What are the living arrangements like? Is it fair to leave my wife alone to handle all the household and child care responsibilities on her own with less than 24 hours notice? But ultimately, the question isn’t about whether it’s fair or not. Nothing’s fair in life. We tell our kids this all the time. Liam and Rowen are in a never ending battle of who got to play video games longer, who got more Skittles than the other, or who won at Uno/War. Sure, this week has been wild and crazy for me balancing work and childcare on my own; but I’m thankful to have some awesome friends who have stepped in to help me out. That’s the best part about our community. Almost everyone is willing to help; and what more can you ask for as a parent? What’s also difficult, on an entirely different level, is Jay being stuck alone in quarantine in a strange, small Manhattan apartment for 5 days before he sees another human face to face. Now THAT’S quarantine! It’s terrible to think there are so many people out there-many of them elderly-who have been stuck ALONE in quarantine for up to a year. It makes me think of Jay’s grandmother (coolest grandma ever, by the way) and I wish I could give her a BIG hug. I can’t wait until we can get together again and do some arm-knitting or bow-making! We miss you so much! It’s definitely been weird not having Jay around the past few days. After a year in, we’ve certainly nestled into our quarantine routine. So it’s odd when Jay isn’t here with us. It’s quieter! No kitchen-aid running in the background, no sizzling or searing on the stove. And none of his chill music playing on our speakers. And it’s way more chaotic! I don’t have my tag team partner to go up against my own Little New Age Outlaws. I’m missing my other half of our Legion of Doom-and without him, it’s much harder to instill or restore order in the ring…I mean…in our home. Not familiar with the old school infamous WWF tag team wrestling duos? Well, here’s another analogy for you… Yesterday I caught myself referring to the boys as my “wild hyenas”. Always plotting, always laughing and can get out of control in a moment’s notice… I say it with love, (and with some truth, too), I know they are good boys; and I wouldn’t have them any other way! So anyways…that’s why we can’t do pizza Friday, tomorrow. I’ll be busy trying to herd my wild hyenas, and Jay will still be locked up in his urban tower, like Rapunzel. (His hair is actually getting quite long! Man-bun is in FULL effect!) Hoping everyone has a great weekend! Bring on the warm weather!

Be well, Cromwell (and beyond)!
